Analytics Engineer
New York (Hybrid, 3 days onsite) Base: $80,000 - $130,000 + Share Options
The Company:
Stream is on a mission to bring financial wellbeing to all workers.
We partner with some of the world's most well-known employers, like Crate & Barrel, Driven Brands, General Electric, New Balance, Restaurant Brands International (RBI) and others, to give their teams access to fairer financial services. Over 3 million people track their shifts and earnings, start their first savings account, use budgeting tools, access financial education and choose when they want to get paid. All in one smartphone app.
Stream is unique: VC-backed and growing at scale-up pace, but with a social conscience. Some of the world's leading financial charities and impact funds were our founding investors.
You'd be joining a team of over 300 passionate, ambitious people across the UK, Europe and US, building a category-leading FinTech product with the mission to improve the lives of millions.
The role
You will be the second data person dedicated to the US business, working alongside our Lead Data Engineer in the US and as part of the central Data team. The US has grown significantly and just launched its largest customer to date. That growth creates real demand for analysis: commercial teams want to quantify customer ROI, product wants to understand adoption across multiple US products, and finance, compliance and state regulators need accurate, reproducible reporting.
This is an analytics engineering role in the full sense. You model data in dbt, you build the dashboards and data apps people use in StreamBI, and you sit with business stakeholders to turn a vague question into a defined analysis. You own a business area end to end rather than handing work between an analyst and an engineer.
What you will work on
Customer ROI Program: Partner with our US GTM and implementation teams on the data side of a new client-facing programme: define what data we ask customers for, what the minimum viable extract is, how it lands securely, and then run the repeatable analyses that show clients the impact Stream has on turnover, retention and absenteeism.
US commercial and product analytics. Build the adoption, engagement and cohort analysis on top of our per-product usage layer, and give the commercial team a validated set of statistics they can put in front of prospects.
Regulatory and financial reporting. Take over execution of our state regulatory reports and examiner follow-ups using the scaffolded pipeline we have built, and extend our financial integrity checks across US salary and settlement data.
Dashboards and data apps. Build and maintain US dashboards in StreamBI, our Streamlit-based BI platform, replacing legacy Redash and Sigma reporting.
Shared responsibilities. Around a fifth of your time goes to the things every analytics engineer here does: triaging dbt and data quality alerts, answering questions in #ask-data, reviewing PRs across our dbt and StreamBI repos, and keeping documentation current.
Within six months you should own the US commercial analytics domain outright, be running state regulatory reports without supervision, and be the first person US stakeholders think to ask.
Key technologies
SQL, Snowflake, dbt, Python, Streamlit, GitHub, Claude Code
What we are looking for
Two to four years in analytics engineering, or in a data analyst role where you built and owned the models as well as the outputs.
Strong SQL, including the discipline to reconcile numbers and prove they tie out, not just aggregate them.
Hands-on dbt experience, and the ability to read and extend a dimensional model without breaking its grain.
Python sufficient to build data apps in Streamlit, or a clear track record of picking up a similar framework fast.
Experience working directly with commercial or operational stakeholders: taking an ambiguous request, redefining it, and returning something that changed a decision.
Comfortable using agentic coding tools day to day. Claude Code is part of how this team works, not an add-on.
Able to operate independently in your timezone, decide what an analysis should be, and push back on a stakeholder when the data does not support the ask.
Nice to have: experience producing outputs for regulators, auditors or clients where being wrong had consequences; exposure to payroll, HR tech, payments or fintech data.
What will we do for you?
15 Days vacation in addition to federal holidays, as well as flexible time off allowances for any ad-hoc childcare/family/caring needs
12 weeks paid Maternity Leave and 2 weeks paid Paternity Leave for employees with over 12 months service
Health, dental and vision benefits (a number of these benefits are paid in full for the employee)
We want to invest in you financially, so we have a 401K program
And of course, the best benefit of all, access to Stream!
